Dr. Raymond Pekala, a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, has been practicing quality eye care and surgery in the South Jersey area since 1982. Born in the anthracite hills of northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Pekala obtained his BS degree from Yale University magna cum laude. He then served some time as a volunteer in the Christian Hospital in Kashgung, India. Afterwards he matriculated at Jefferson Medical College where he received his Doctor of Medicine and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then went on to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania/ Scheie Eye Institute.
Dr. Pekala is Chief of the division of Ophthalmic Surgery at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. He is also an Attending Surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital and is on the teaching staff there. He is also a member of the staff at Virtua Medical Center. He is considered a “Top Doc” by SJ Magazine.
In his spare time Dr. Pekala enjoys long distance running and biking, working out at the gym, skiing, and spending time at the Jersey shore.
